Community Arts Garden –
Sustainability Group presents “The Environmental status of the Barwon estuary and the impacts of human activity” with Jon Duthie and Friends of the Bluff. Saturday September 11th at 2pm Geelong Road Barwon Heads. Afternoon tea and discussion about further activities will follow at 3pm.

Barwon Heads Fine Music Society:
The next concert for the Barwon Heads Fine Music Society will be held on Sunday,12th September at 2.30pm in the Barwon Heads Anglican Church & will present 3 ensembles of clarinets & saxophones from The Geelong College. The Barwon Heads Carnival of Music
this year, will take place on the weekend of 8-9-10 October, and promises to be an exciting time for all those who love good music of all genres.
There will be eight fabulous concerts over one wonderful weekend.
The Opening Night Concert on Friday, October 8th, at the Community Hall at 8.00pm, will be a Piano Recital given by Caroline Almonte, who recently performed in Geelong with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and is at present overseas at the Edinburgh Festival.
On Saturday, 9th October, there will be four concerts:
The first will be at 12.30pm in the Community Hall, and features "Lunch with Gilbert and Sullivan", where the Savoy Opera Company will present excerpts from the G and S repertoire.
At 3.00pm, again at the Community Hall, there will be a concert by The Australian Chamber Strings, making their first visit to Barwon Heads for this Carnival of Music.
There will be another "Jazz at Jirrahlinga" at 4.45pm, with the featured band being "Sambrose Automobile" and they will have 'Almacknjack' as their support group.
At 8.00pm The Melbourne Welsh Male Choir will again perform at the Community Hall.
Those who attended last year's concert can attest to the wonderful program being offered.
On Sunday, 10th October, there will be three concerts:
At 12.30pm The Australian Youth Choir will provide the musical program for this event, in the Community Hall.
At 3.45pm in the Catholic Church, Hitchcock Avenue, the Gerard Mack String Quartet will again perform for the Carnival of Music.
At 5.30pm, in the Community Hall, 'The More than Opera' Company will perform the final concert of this wonderful weekend. The title of this concert is "Ole, Oo La La" and provides a large and diverse repertoire for all to enjoy. For further information go to: www.barwonheads.net or phone 5254 2982.

CONNEWARRE COMMEMORATION The residents of the Connewarre district are planning to commemorate 170 years of settlement with an event to be held on the weekend of 2nd & 3rd October, 2010. We would welcome opportunity of scanning old photos, documents and memorabilia of the district for public display and possible inclusion in a historical publication. History themes include families, farming, industry, schools, churches, sporting teams, fire brigade and community organizations.
If you are interested in volunteering some time, provide expertise or assist then please join us to make this a great event.

The Jigsaw Library is having a clean up; so during the school holidays there will be a monster bargain sale of withdrawn and superseded items, going out at $1 each. The library is open Saturdays 10-12 next to the Op Shop.

Barwon Heads Bowling Club: Don't be bored stuck at home during winter! Come along to our club on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays for a game of social bowls. You don't bowl? Come along and we'll show you how. Ring the club on 52543124 for more information.

 The Barwon Heads Chorale rehearsals recommence for 2010. These will take place in the Anglican Church, Hitchcock Avenue, at 7.30pm each Tuesday. The Chorale will perform songs of well-known Broadway Musicals. New members welcome. There is a charge of $5.00 at each rehearsal. The Musical Director is Natale Lewington, a well-known opera singer, recently returned to Australia and now resident in Barwon Heads. For further information phone: 5254 2982.


Volunteer drivers needed Barwon Heads Senior Citizens Centre requests volunteers to drive its older and less mobile members to and from their Monday afternoon cards program. At present one car is needed each week, but a panel of three or four drivers would make it easier to cover driver absences due to sickness, holidays or other commitments. If you can offer regular or occasional help for this important social outlet for people who can no longer drive themselves (or walk the distance) please contact secretary Margaret Parry 5254 3208.

 

Barwon Heads Bowling Club . Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, R.T. Edgar Real Estate we have been able to make great improvements to our facilities. The pennant competition is underway. Social games are played on Mondays and Thursdays. New members are always welcome. Our club rooms are available for hire for family celebrations, parties and for meetings. Barwon Heads Community Arts Garden: Is looking for old water tanks (to be used for raised garden beds), farm gates, sleepers or useful timber/ fencing material, a shed or old garage and a school portable to help build the infrastructure . Reduce, Reuse, Recycle- if you have any of these things and want to donate them to the arts garden call Meaghan on 5254 3006 to organise collection .

 Guides are for girls (grade 3 and above) in both Barwon Heads and Ocean Grove.  Girls are encouraged to learn to work as a team, learn about camping, craft and the environment. Ocean Grove Junior Guides and Barwon Heads Junior Guides meet on a Monday night. Girls interested in Guides should call Helen Carruthers on 5254 1299.Guides are now selling Guide biscuits and if you would like to place an order please ring the above number.
