  Summer may technically be over, but it's still hot and humid. Pony club activities are back into action and riders and families are getting into the swing of things again. The competition schedule may be slow at the moment, but by theend of this month it'll be "all systems GO!
   "New Year's resolutions for many club riders have included aiming for some major events this year and with State Horse Trials (Grades 1 & 2) and Zone Challenge (Grades 3 & 4) rapidly approaching in May, there are many riders already planning their qualifying events and training programs. Given that Barwon Heads Pony Club had winning members at each level in 2006, there's a very high standard that's been set!
  One local rider, Claire Dickson, has set herself some goals for the year ahead. Thirteen year old Claire is only in her 2nd year of pony club and began competing in horse trials last year.
  2007 looks like holding new challenges in many ways; starting at secondary school, as well as starting out on her new chestnut horse, Raz. Claire hopes to balance bus-travel with riding and training Raz after school, and work towards a handful of horse trials events throughout the year. Claire and Raz  have been busy during the past 2 months getting to know and trust one another and having a great (and very social) time at clinics and camps over the summer holidays. Show jumping and
cross country jumping are two of Claire's favourite and Raz seems to share her enthusiasm and willingness-to-learn.
  Pony club members need to ride at two club rallies on their horse before they are eligible to be graded for competition and allowed to enter events. Claire and Raz are now ready and raring to go! The next pony club rally is on Sunday April I st.
